Modern Family star Sofia Vergara didn’t want to date her husband – because she thought he was too hot<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Sultry Latina star Sofia Vergara has revealed she resisted dating her husband at first \u2013 because he was too hot.<\/span><\/p>\n

In her 40s and a mum to a \u00adgrown-up son, the Modern Family star reckoned dating muscle-bound hunk Joe Manganiello would be too much work, especially as he drove women wild as a stripper in Magic Mike.<\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s despite being a pin-up herself and the world\u2019s highest-paid TV actress.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sofia, 45, who married Joe two years ago next month, said: \u201cI didn\u2019t want to go with him at first. I was like, \u2018I don\u2019t want to deal with that. I\u2019m too old now to be dealing with a guy that all the girls are after. You\u2019re too hot. This is going to be so much work\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI am not kidding. I didn\u2019t want to go with him because of how hot he was.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Now she\u2019s glad she put in the work and the pair are blissfully happy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Teasingly, Sofia, who got hitched to Joe, 40, in Palm Beach, Florida, in 2015, reckons the secret to a good marriage is \u201cphysical work\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

She said: \u201cIt shouldn\u2019t be work \u2013 a lot of work. Physical work, yes, but psychological work, it shouldn\u2019t be.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI sometimes make Joe eggs in the morning. He also makes them really good when he does breakfast. The good thing now is that I have money and I can get someone to cook for me. Before, it was all avocado toast and things I could do fast.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Her fiery Latino spirit \u2013 often seen in Modern Family, which is back for a new series on Sky1 \u2013 is more than a match for Joe\u2019s Italian roots.<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe, who also played a werewolf in True Blood, has helped Sofia through a long-running frozen embryo legal battle involving her ex-fianc\u00e9 Nicholas M. Loeb, who she split from in 2014, after he tried to take control of two embryos they had together.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sofia, who has a 25-year-old son Manolo from her first marriage, said of Joe: \u201cHe is Italian so gets me completely and I get him. He is loud like me. He is very passionate, like me. We are so happy we found each other.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Sofia was discovered by a \u00adphotographer on a Colombian beach and starred in a Latin American Pepsi commercial when she was 17.<\/span><\/p>\n

She moved to Miami, Florida, after her older brother Rafael was murdered in 1998 during a botched kidnap. She then studied acting and appeared in Baywatch in 1999 before her first US TV break in Hot Properties then hitting pay dirt in 2009 as Gloria in Modern Family, playing the wife of patriarch Jay, played by Ed O\u2019Neill, star of Married…With Children.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sofia now earns an \u00adestimated $41.5million a year, $14million more than the second highest earning actor, Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory, thanks to beauty endorsements and other deals.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sofia said: \u201cI just feel so lucky to end up on a show like Modern Family, that everybody really likes, and to get a character like Gloria.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s nothing not to like about her. She\u2019s amazing, so passionate and so crazy. She reminds me a lot of my mother and my own family.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Loud and brash, her character has come in for criticism for being a Latina stereotype.<\/span><\/p>\n

But Sofia said: \u201cWhen I think of Gloria, I think of my aunt and my mother. They are intense and they are passionate, they dress sexy and colourful, they are loud.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is wrong with that if it is a stereotype? I don\u2019t think it is an exaggeration. It\u2019s comedy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In Modern Family as well as being a younger wife to an older man and super sexy, Sofia reckons being funny could be why both men and women warm to her.<\/span><\/p>\n

She said: \u201cThey get less scared of you because if you approach \u00adeverything with humour and you don\u2019t take yourself too seriously, everybody\u2019s going to like you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The envy of many a 45-year-old woman, what is her beauty secret?<\/span><\/p>\n

She said: \u201cPart of being Latin and growing up is putting ourselves together really often.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor example, I don\u2019t really like going out without lipstick, some blush or mascara. I don\u2019t even think about it. For me, it\u2019s like brushing your teeth \u2013 it\u2019s not really an effort.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI have a closet full of products and I use them all.\u201d Reluctancy, Sofia also hits the gym. She said: \u201cI know that with age, you need to keep things where they were initially. I know that I have to work out.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t love it that much but it has become part of my life.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI do it also because of my job, and I am in a place in my career where I need to have energy and look good and fit into those tiny little dresses.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The part of her body she has to work on most is: \u201cThe butt of course, I\u2019m Latin!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The ninth series of Modern Family has started on Sky1 and Sofia can\u2019t believe the writers keep coming up with such funny storylines each year.<\/span><\/p>\n

She said: \u201cWe are so lucky because every time we go to a table read we are waiting like, \u2018This is going to be the one that is so-so.\u2019 But we are always laughing.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a family. I spend more time with them than my real family, thank God! It\u2019s a delight for me to go to work every morning because everybody gets along.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
