{"id":45137,"date":"2017-09-28T07:10:17","date_gmt":"2017-09-28T07:10:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/?p=45137"},"modified":"2017-09-28T07:10:17","modified_gmt":"2017-09-28T07:10:17","slug":"facebooks-zuckerberg-defends-company-critical-trump-tweet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/business\/facebooks-zuckerberg-defends-company-critical-trump-tweet.html","title":{"rendered":"Facebook&#8217;s Zuckerberg defends company after critical Trump tweet"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Facebook&#8217;s Zuckerberg defends company after critical Trump tweet<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Facebook&#8217;s Zuckerberg defends company after critical Trump tweet: Facebook Inc\u2019s (FB.O) CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Wednesday defended his company\u2019s role in U.S. elections and rejected assertions in a tweet from U.S. President Donald Trump that the social network was against him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Zuckerberg has been on the defensive for weeks over revelations that Russian agents bought ads on Facebook and created fake accounts to inflame political tensions in the United States ahead of the 2016 presidential vote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">In a Facebook post on Wednesday Zuckerberg said both Trump and liberals were upset about ideas and content on Facebook during the campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">\u201cThat\u2019s what running a platform for all ideas looks like,\u201d Zuckerberg said on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Zuckerburg noted that the 2016 campaign was the first in the United States where the internet was a primary way candidates communicated and said the ability of candidates and voters to interact was a good thing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">He also pointed to \u201cget out the vote\u201d efforts that had spurred almost 2 million people to register to vote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">In the same post, Zuckerberg said he regretted saying after the election that it was \u201ccrazy\u201d to think that misinformation on Facebook changed the outcome of the election, adding that the comment was \u201cdismissive.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Earlier on Wednesday, Trump\u2019s tweet criticized Facebook as \u201canti-Trump\u201d and suggested the company could have colluded with other media outlets that opposed him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Facebook is part of investigations both houses of Congress and special counsel Robert Mueller are conducting into Russian influence in the 2016 election.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">Facebook on Wednesday was asked to testify before two separate Congressional committees.
