Samsung’s mysterious ‘Triple Eight’ handset has been quietly popping up in a number of interesting places over the summer months. It is believed by the community to be the serial number of Samsung’s ‘folding’ smartphone, the presumptively named Galaxy X.

Samsung has demonstrated the display technology required for such a device many times over the last decade, but the rumors and leaks are starting to build up. Let’s take a look at some of the solid sightings of the handset, and then try to work out when it will be announced.

The model number was listed on a filing for its BlueTooth certification, and at that point it corresponded with no known Samsung model. That’s still the case, but ‘Treble Eight’ was a new and unannounced handset. The only one suspected to be close to a commercial release was the Galaxy X.

Next up the model number appeared on the Wi-Fi certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance, And so to the latest point. That model number has now shown up with South Korean regulator the National Radio Research Agency, the equivalent of the FCC in the United States.

All of this suggests that the ‘Triple Eight’ is being lined up for a release in Samsung’s home country. Assuming Taniyama-Shimura, the SM-G888N0 is the Galaxy X, Samsung’s long awaited bendable phone.

It won’t be the first phone with a curved screen, but it could be the first that allows the screen to be bent many times by the user into a smaller clamshell style format allowing for a device that fits better in a pocket but still offers the larger screens beloved by many.

The question now is “when will Samsung launch the device?” Assuming that this is going to happen in the next few months, there are a couple of options. Working backwards, April 2018 is likely to be the release date of the Galaxy S9, which is vital to Samsung’s financial year. The build up to the S9 would happen in March 2018, so that may not want to be disturbed, while February is the traditional launch of the S handsets just before Mobile World Congress.

I could make a good argument for a reveal around MWC and use that to blow the competition out of the technological water, but it still feels horribly close to the S9 launch. Who would take a revolutionary handset with new screen technology and a dramatic form factor that will be sold in small numbers, and launch it at the same time as the key handset that is your financial base for the year?

Don’t forget the Note 8 is just building up retail steam now in the run up to the festive season, which rules out October and November because you don’t want to disturb the Note 8 sales, while December is too close to Christmas to have any meaningful market impact or solid follow-up

Although the thought of rolling this out to disrupt the iPhone X launch is deliciously sneaky, I’Il come back to January and CES. It’s not a traditional venue for a big mobile phone launch, but this year’s Las Vegas showcase saw HMD Global reveal its first Android-powered handset to the world. Following that launch the Nokia 6 picked up critical praise which established the return of the Nokia Mobile brand in the vital BRIC countries as well as in the digital press.

The January slot works, the world’s press are in town, and it could be launched at CES as a ‘South Korean only’ handset (much like the first curved edge screen on the Galaxy Note 4). That will allow Samsung to gather consumer feedback and significant volumes of real world testing on the new screen technology, it would put a marker down for the rest of the year, and it would stop another manufacturer ‘winning’ CES.

Source:- https://www.forbes.com/sites/ewanspence/2017/09/24/samsung-galaxyx-foldable-smartphone-new-leak-rumor-release-date/#3a54cbc97ac5

New Galaxy X Leaks Point To Launch Date For Samsung’s Folding Phone New Galaxy X Leaks Point To Launch Date For Samsung’s Folding Phone:- Let’s talk about the SM-G888N0.
