The sensor could eventually provide facial recognition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Residents of monitored neighbourhoods can opt-out of being tracked &#8211; but visitors, or people passing through, cannot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Flock is backed by Y Combinator, a start-up \u201cincubator\u201d which in the past has funded successes including Dropbox, Reddit and AirBnB.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">A privacy expert said he believed the data collection to be legal according to US law, but that the idea could ignite a debate about the &#8220;right to be left alone in public\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">\u201cOne of the great weaknesses in US privacy law is that we only protect against intrusions into private areas, not public spaces,\u201d said Albert Gidari, director of privacy at Stanford Law School&#8217;s Center for Internet and Society.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">&#8220;Public roads through neighbourhoods, licence plates, pedestrians on public sidewalks etc all are fair game,&#8221; he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">The data is only made available to \u201cneighbourhood leaders\u201d, Flock says, and is a tool that could be used to fight crime.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">To date, one person has been convicted thanks evidence captured by the device.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">\u201cAn unfortunate individual drove into one of our [monitored] neighbourhoods,\u201d explained Garret Langley, chief executive and co-founder of Flock.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">&#8220;He put a nice road bike in the back of his car, and drove off with both the window down and the trunk open.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">&#8220;Not only do we have footage of his licence plate, we have a picture of his face and a picture of the bike in the back.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">\u2018Not our data&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">The technology was shown off at Y Combinator\u2019s Demo Day, the twice-yearly event at which entrepreneurs pitch their companies to several hundred investors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Flock\u2019s devices are being trialled in seven neighbourhoods in and around Atlanta, with more locations across the US currently being considered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">Source:-\u00a0http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/technology-41008141<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"fb-background-color\">\n\t\t\t  <div \n\t\t\t  \tclass = \"fb-comments\" \n\t\t\t  \tdata-href = \"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/technology\/sensor-tracks-who-is-driving-in-your-neighbourhood.html\"\n\t\t\t  \tdata-numposts = \"10\"\n\t\t\t  \tdata-lazy = \"true\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-colorscheme = \"light\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-order-by = \"social\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-mobile=true>\n\t\t\t  <\/div><\/div>\n\t\t  <style>\n\t\t    .fb-background-color {\n\t\t\t\tbackground: #ffffff !important;\n\t\t\t}\n\t\t\t.fb_iframe_widget_fluid_desktop iframe {\n\t\t\t    width: 630px !important;\n\t\t\t}\n\t\t  <\/style>\n\t\t  ","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sensor tracks who is driving in your neighbourhood Sensor tracks who is driving in your neighbourhood:- A start-up that lets residents monitor who drives in and out of their neighbourhood was among the companies revealed at a Silicon Valley event on Monday.
