Aguilar homers twice as Anderson, Brewers beat Rockies 8-4<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

A day after coming off the bench to hit a decisive home run, Jesus Aguilar made the most of his start at first base.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aguilar picked up where he left off and homered twice, Chase Anderson won in his return from the disabled list and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Colorado Rockies 8-4 on Sunday for their sixth victory in seven games.<\/span><\/p>\n

“He drove the bus again today,” Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell said about Aguilar. “Three homers in the last two days. A big start for him filling in there.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Keon Broxton drove in two runs and Jonathan Villar added three hits as the Brewers remained two games behind first-place Chicago in the NL Central. They climbed within 2\u00bd games of Arizona for the second NL wild card \u2014 and are just 3\u00bd back of Colorado, which holds the league’s top wild card.<\/span><\/p>\n

Anderson (7-2) allowed one run and two hits over five effective innings. He threw 73 pitches in his first start since straining his left oblique on June 28. The right-hander struck out four, walked three and hit two batters with pitches.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We got the win, that’s what matters the most,” Anderson said. “At the end of the day we want to win games and get to the postseason. It was a good series win.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Aguilar tied it in the second with a homer off starter Kyle Freeland (11-8), and the Brewers added a run on Ryan Braun’s sacrifice fly in the fifth and another on pinch-hitter Neil Walker’s RBI single in the sixth.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aguilar connected again in the seventh, a two-run shot off reliever Tyler Chatwood, for his 14th homer of the season and second career multihomer game.<\/span><\/p>\n

One night earlier, Aguilar launched a pinch-hit homer against All-Star closer Greg Holland to put Milwaukee ahead with two outs in the ninth.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I am just trying to make good swings with balls in my zone,” Aguilar said through a translator. “I was able to get good contact on a couple of those.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Pinch-hitter Eric Sogard had an RBI groundout in the eighth and Broxton hit a two-run single in the ninth.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mark Reynolds hit his 26th homer and drove in three runs for the Rockies, who lost for the third time in four games. Carlos Gonzalez added three hits and an RBI.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Rockies scored twice in the ninth off reliever Jeremy Jeffress and put two more in scoring position. Corey Knebel struck out pinch-hitter Mike Tauchman for his 26th save.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We lose a series to a team that is chasing us,” Gonzalez said with a sigh. “There are a lot of games and we have to put this in the past.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Freeland, who was born in Denver, allowed four hits and three runs \u2014 two earned \u2014 in 5 2\/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked five.<\/span><\/p>\n

Colorado committed four errors and finished its homestand 3-4.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We weren’t very good,” manager Bud Black said. “This game was uncharacteristic of us.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Knebel set a Brewers record for most strikeouts in a season by a reliever with 99.<\/span><\/p>\n

ROSTER MOVES<\/span><\/p>\n

With Anderson coming off the disabled list, the Brewers optioned right-handed rookie Brandon Woodruff to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Woodruff is 1-1 with a 1.62 ERA in three major league starts. He allowed a run in 4 2\/3 innings against the Rockies on Saturday. “He did a nice job in his first three starts,” Counsell said. “We won’t need a fifth starter until September. He will be back in September and we will see how he figures in the mix.”<\/span><\/p>\n

TRAINER’S ROOM<\/span><\/p>\n

Brewers: Jett Bandy (cracked rib) was on the field throwing and will try to resume hitting this week. Counsell said the catcher could return in September.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rockies: C Ryan Hanigan tweaked his groin and was removed for pinch-hitter Jonathan Lucroy in the sixth. . Ian Desmond (calf) ran the bases and will go out on a rehab assignment soon, Black said.<\/span><\/p>\n
