Bachelor in Paradise finally addresses sexual assault allegations in second episode<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Bachelor in Paradise finally addresses sexual assault allegations in second episode:- After a criticized cliffhanger in the season premiere of \u201cBachelor in Paradise,\u201d the reality show finally took on the sexual assault allegations that halted production earlier in the year.<\/span><\/p>\n

While the ABC show skipped showing footage of the drunken hookup between DeMario Jackson and Corinne Olympios, host Chris Harrison joined the group after production resumed to address the scandal.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWarner Bros. hired an outside firm to look into everything that happened here. They looked at all the video footage, sent people down here to interview all of you, our staff. They concluded that there was no evidence of misconduct by cast on the set,\u201d he said before asking the group of remaining participants if they believed the results.<\/span><\/p>\n

While everyone agreed, Derek Peth spoke up about the misconceptions about the show.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think there’s a weird perception that exists out there, that we’re not in control of ourselves when we’re here. And, like, that there’s this puppet master thing occurring, and it \u2014 and, like \u2014 evil, manipulative producers,\u201d he said Tuesday night.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe all know how, like, realistic the friendships are with the cast and amongst the cast and then the crew and the producers. Like, we are here to make our own decisions and develop real relationships with everybody.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Taylor Nolan, who has stayed sober during her entire time on the Bachelor Nation, said she\u2019d never been pressured to drink on \u201cBachelor in Paradise\u201d or \u201cThe Bachelor.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Raven Gates also said that her upbringing in the south played into the racial factors.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\u201cWe have a stigma that where, you know, seeing a white woman with a black man is wrong, and that night, what happened wasn’t wrong, and so I was super empathetic with Demario because it’s just, you know, another issue,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNot only is consent important, but it’s also to get rid of the stigma that interracial couples can’t be or blaming African-American men for crimes they didn’t commit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Olympios originally said she was a victim and didn\u2019t remember the encounter, before issuing another statement that said she and her team had gotten \u201cto the bottom of what had occurred\u201d and were ending their own investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Danielle Maltby, however, said the vague statement, and particularly the use of the word \u201cvictim\u201d was just to \u201csave face.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Harrison also asked the group about their perception of the meaning of consent, which was the stem of Jackson and Olympios\u2019 problem, as rumors said she was too drunk to consent.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Because somebody gives consent in the beginning doesn’t mean that they can’t have \u2014 they can’t have the right to say no at any point, so consent needs to be throughout everything,\u201d Ben Zorn said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo if somebody’s passed out, unresponsive, can they give consent? If somebody’s drunk, can they give consent? The question comes into, would you have given the same consent if you were sober? And I think we’ve all been there the next morning, whatever, and you’re like, \u2018Yeah, I probably shouldn’t have done this.\u2019 Or whatever, but it’s just, like \u2014 not to make light of the situation, but it’s, like, alcohol clouds your judgment, but you can give consent.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Harrison wrapped up the segment by asking each individual member if they still wanted to participate on the show.<\/span><\/p>\n
