Big3’s biggest names mum on Charlottesville:- No comment from Julius Erving. No comment from Clyde Drexler. No comment from Dwyane Wade, Kenyon Martin and Mike Bibby.<\/span><\/p>\n

The collective silence on the violence in Charlottesville, Va., was almost as deafening as the music pumping inside Staples Center on Sunday during the regular-season finale for Ice Cube\u2019s Big3 league.<\/span><\/p>\n

Basketball stars had a chance to join LeBron James and address the violence Virginia that stemmed from a national white supremacy protest. But the biggest names here sidestepped the issue.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI stay out of the political arena,\u2019\u2019 Erving, who coaches in the 3-on-3 team league, told USA TODAY Sports, echoing the sentiments of some of the other retired NBA players. \u201cI generally don\u2019t answer questions about politics.\u2019\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

LeBron James, by contrast, continues to make his political voice heard. On Saturday, he wrote on Twitter: \u201cIt’s sad what’s going on in Charlottesville. Is this the direction our country is heading? Make America Great Again huh?! He said that\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Minutes later, James added, \u201cOur youth deserves better!! Flat out.\u2019\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

It was another James \u2014 former NBA player Mike James \u2014 whose words earned Dr. J\u2019s approval.<\/span><\/p>\n

During a press conference after their team\u2019s victory, a reporter asked about Charlottesville. James tackled the question.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe more hate we\u2019re seeing in this world, the more we\u2019re giving back hate instead of giving more love,\u2019\u2019 said James, who played 595 games in the NBA. \u201cAnd see, love is always going to be the thing that\u2019s going to turn any kind of conflict.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf you argue with me and I come back telling you \u2018I love you,\u2019 you won\u2019t want to fight me anymore. But if I come back with just-as-wrong a response to you, well, then you\u2019re adrenaline is going to get even more high. And that\u2019s the problem right now, is hate is being basically fought with hate, and what are you going to get out of that? Hate.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s just always going to be the issue until someone is the bigger person and allowing themselves not to allow pride to be the thing to stop them from giving a little bit of love despite all the hate in the world today.\u2019\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

While most of the Basketball Hall of Famers dodged the issue, Stephen Jackson and Mahmoud Adul-Rauf criticized President Trump while Hall-of-Famer Rick Barry said the scrutiny Trump is facing is a \u201cdisgrace.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

When the pounding music and talk of politics died down Sunday, the eighth stop of Big3 ended in style: Ice Cube left the arena celebrating his victory over LaVar Ball, Snoop Dogg and his entourage left enveloped in the aroma of marijuana, while a crowd that also included LL Cool J, Oscar de la Hoya and Lamar Odom headed for the exits and into the warm evening air.<\/span><\/p>\n
