Legendary country icon, Glen Campbell has passed away at the age of 81. The \u2018Rhinestone Cowboy\u2019 singer died on August 8 in Nashville, after a long battle with Alzheimer\u2019s.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Glen Campbell has passed away at the age of 81 after a long battle with Alzheimer\u2019s, according to TMZ, which claims the \u201cRhinestone Cowboy\u201d singer died at a Nashville facility for Alzheimer\u2019s patients. The official Instagram account for the country icon, as well as his official website, confirmed his death on August 8, with a heartfelt message. \u201cIt is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and legendary singer and guitarist, Glen Travis Campbell, at the age of 81, following his long and courageous battle with Alzheimer\u2019s disease,\u201d the account captioned a photo of Campbell. The account also provided information on where friends, family, and fans can send well wishes too. \u201cIn lieu of flowers, donations for Alzheimer\u2019s research may be made to the Glen Campbell Memorial Fund at BrightFocus Foundation through the donation page at Careliving.org,\u201d the statement read. Campbell\u2019s wife, Kim, is expected to make a personal statement. While the family appreciates prayers, they have asked for their privacy at this time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Glen is survived by his wife and their three children, Cal, Shannon and Ashley; his children from previous marriages, Debby, Kelli, Travis, Kane, and Dillon; ten grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren; sisters, Barbara, Sandra, and Jane; and brothers, John Wallace \u201cShorty\u201d and Gerald [information via Instagram].<\/span><\/p>\n

Glen\u2019s daughter, Ashley also took to Instagram on August 8 to address her father\u2019s passing. \u201cHeartbroken. I owe him everything I am, and everything I ever will be,\u201d Ashley wrote, adding, \u201cHe will be remembered so well and with so much love.\u201d The young blonde posted a photo that showed her by Glen\u2019s bedside, holding his hand.<\/span><\/p>\n

Having released more than 70 albums in his decades-long career, Glen made history in 1967 when he won four Grammys in the country and pop categories. He was also named CMA\u2019s Entertainer of the Year in 1968. He was known for hits such as, \u201cAdios\u201d and \u201cGentle on My Mind\u201d. Glen also dabbling in the acting world, with his most recent camera appearance in the 2014 documentary, \u201cI\u2019ll Be Me\u201d. The film showed Glen\u2019s farewell tour and his battle with his Alzheimer\u2019s diagnosis. Glen also made headlines in the 1980\u2019s, when he struck up a romance with fellow country singer, Tanya Tucker, 58.<\/span><\/p>\n
