SAG-AFTRA Members Approve New Contract<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

The new contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers will run through 2020.<\/span>
\nSAG-AFTRA members have voted overwhelmingly to approve the new three-year contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers for film, TV and basic cable that was negotiated last month. The vote was 75.79 percent in favor of the contract, the actors\u2019 union announced Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new contract becomes retroactive to July 1 and runs through June 30, 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWith these new provisions, members will be compensated for global use of their work on streaming new media platforms \u2014 such as Netflix and Amazon \u2014 in addition to seeing significant gains in streaming media residuals. These gains speak not just to today, but to our future by establishing important new guidelines on travel and options as well as providing meaningful gains for the background community,\u201d SAG-AFTRA president and negotiating committee chair Gabrielle Carteris said in making Monday\u2019s announcement.<\/span><\/p>\n

The deal, struck by the 26-member SAG-AFTRA negotiating committee and AMPTP, was first reached on July 4 \u2014 after the union first threatened to strike and talks were later extended for two days. The tentative agreement was then approved by the SAG-AFTRA National Board on July 15. It was then submitted to the 140,000 members of SAG-AFTRA, which represents actors, announcers, broadcast journalists, dancers, DJs, news writers and editors, program hosts, stunt performers and voiceover artists, among others. Of that number, 15.33 percent took part in the final vote.<\/span><\/p>\n

Key provisions in the new contract include:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 A guaranteed raise of 2.5 – 3 percent for each year of the contracts and increased pension and retirement contributions.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Residuals improvements of more than 300 percent for content streaming on new media like Netflix and Amazon. Residuals are due sooner, down to 90 days from one year. Plus, there\u2019s a new foreign residual for when work is shown on affiliated platforms abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Double overtime for background actors: The 11th and 12th hours of the day will be paid at double time instead of time and a half for West Coast work.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Additional increases for background performers include a boost to the photo double rate \u2014 an upfront increase of nearly 17 percent \u2014 and a large upfront increase \u2014 18 percent \u2014 for programs made for The CW, as well as a new, standard voucher to protect against identity theft.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Improved provisions for travel for TV performers, including setting minimums that significantly increase relocation allowances.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Guaranteed airfare to performers traveling for work taking place in Los Angeles.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 A reduction of the number of \u201cidle days\u201d that may be negotiated from three to two and increase of pay for those idle days from $75 to $100.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Safe travel commitment from management to provide either transportation or lodging for performers who do not believe they can drive themselves safely due to exhaustion or inclement weather.<\/span><\/p>\n
