At the time, Madonna asked the media to \u201crespect our privacy during this transitional time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">On Thursday (27Jul17), Madonna\u2019s lawyer, Jenny Afia, appeared in London\u2019s High Court and insisted the article could have put the girls\u2019 safety in danger and jeopardized the adoption process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">\u201cThe MailOnline published it at a time when, as the journalist ought to have appreciated, Madonna would be powerless to protect the girls from harm,\u201d Afia said. \u201cTheir actions could, in her view, have threatened the integrity and\/or outcome of the adoption process which would have had potentially life-changing implications for the girls, as well as for Madonna and her family.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">\u201cMany people in Malawi know of Madonna as an individual of fame and financial means,\u201d she continued. \u201cIn the circumstances, Madonna believes that it would (and should) have been self-evident to the reporter that the protection of the girls\u2019 identities pending the decision about their potential adoption was likely to be vital for their safety and welfare.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">According to the New York Post\u2019s Page Six, Madonna\u2019s legal fees were paid and she received additional damages.
