This two-lane alley tucked away upstairs in The Roosevelt is a must,\u201d Voltaggio says. \u201cThat\u2019s where you\u2019ll find me with a Dewar\u2019s 12 in one hand and a bowling ball in the other. Not to mention the fact that this hotel houses many other nightlife and lifestyle experiences including its newest addition\u2014a private tattoo studio by Dr. Woo.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\nCOFFEE AT THE CANYON COUNTRY STORE IN LAUREL CANYON<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLilly has been serving coffee from a little stall out front of the store for years. She remembers your order after a few visits and even says \u2018Will you be having the usual?\u2019 And that always makes you feel like you are always the most important guest of the day!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

THE COMEDY STORE, THE IMPROV, LAUGH FACTORY<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t choose just one so you have to pick. You’re in L.A., and unless you are opposed to laughter, why not? The colors, smells, sounds make you forget that you\u2019re in a major city and remind us of the importance of supporting our local farmers that grow food for our tables.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\nMAXFIELD L.A.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cA West Hollywood boutique that has everything from vintage furniture, books, home decor, and of course, clothing. While I know a lot of people may think it\u2019s another designer store on Melrose, they also have that signature L.A. street style available. They carry labels like Fear of God and Enfants Riches D\u00e9prim\u00e9s (translation: depressed rich kids). This shop has that L.A. street vibe\u2014mixed with high fashion and vintage shopping.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

LINE HOTEL<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLocated in K-Town, this Hotel really is different from your typical L.A. hotel. The location is centered between Hollywood and Downtown L.A., and this hotel really used the unique location to complement the feel of the neighborhood. You can eat the amazing Korean dishes created by Roy Choi. Or you can grab drinks at Break Room 86 and enjoy a Houston Brothers nightlife experience.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

CAPE SEAFOOD & PROVISIONS<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the top place to purchase seafood in L.A. Michael Cimarusti created this place to bring the best seafood directly to the public. He has always been a big advocate for small-scale fisherman being able to sell directly to larger restaurants. This shop is his way of providing high-quality seafood for public purchase while continuing to stand behind a really great cause.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

THE PIKEY<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis was once the home of the famous Ye Coach & Horses bar,\u201d Voltaggio says. \u201cThey\u2019ve managed to revamp an old neighborhood bar for locals into a new neighborhood bar for locals. Food is great and served late and has one of my absolute favorite whiskies (Aberfeldy 12) behind the bar. They even have a nod to the previous establishment called, \u2018The Coach and Horses,\u2019 which is a shot of whisky and a tall can of cold PBR!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\nYOSHIRO CUTLERY<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAll chefs should have a collection of knives,\u201d Voltaggio says. \u201cI think it\u2019s important to understand what quality cutlery is\u2014and what a knife means to a chef. Yoshiro uses the importance of tradition and technique to create some of the best Japanese knives. They can also sharpen or repair any type of knife. They make any visit feel very personal and they\u2019re happy to answer any questions you have with one-on-one help.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

GRAND CENTRAL MARKET<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is what the child of a food truck and a farmers\u2019 market would look like. It has a ton of produce available and everything ranging from a jewelry store to a liquor store,\u201d Voltaggio says. \u201cBut the best part of Grand Central Market is that you can find a little taste of everything that\u2019s happening with the food scene across L.A. in one spot. They have falafels, burgers, tacos, Thai food, El Salvadorian food\u2014so many different options! I think that\u2019s why it\u2019s such a great spot, it sums up the diversity in culture we have in Los Angeles.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
