Woman’s purse lost in lake found by boy while fishing 25 years later: – At first, 11-year-old Brodie Brooks was disappointed when he didn\u2019t reel in the huge fish he thought he\u2019d nabbed on Lake Hartwell in Anderson, South Carolina.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI felt like it was a big fish because it was bobbing my rod up and down and I\u2019d just gotten an Ugly Stik so I was scared I was gonna break my rod. I was scared the line was going to snap,\u201d young Brodie told ABC News.<\/span><\/p>\n

But then he realized he\u2019d caught something even better: a woman\u2019s purse.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI told him, \u2018You ain\u2019t got no fish, you got a treasure,\u201d Ben Myers, Brodie\u2019s distant relative who was fishing with him, recalled of the unusual find on July 3. \u201cI\u2019ve been fishing on this lake all my life and that\u2019s the first time I saw something <\/span>be caught like this on a rod and reel.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The purse belongs to April Bolt, who told ABC News it\u2019s been missing for 25 years after she left it on her boat in the nearby marina during a family cookout in 1992.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI couldn\u2019t believe it. I was lost for words,\u201d Bolt, 49, said. \u201cYou never think you\u2019d see it again. I knew somebody must\u2019ve just gotten the <\/span>cash out and threw it in the lake.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Once the fishing buddies got the muddied purse onshore, Meyers began looking through the contents and quickly realized, \u201cI know this woman,\u201d he said. \u201cShe\u2019s a friend of the family. I went to school with her nephew, but I hadn\u2019t seen her in 10 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was pretty wild,\u201d he added. \u201cYou fish up a purse for one, then you actually know whose it was. It was crazy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Myers, 39, called Bolt\u2019s nephew who passed along the good news.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt meant the world to me,\u201d said Bolt. \u201cMy son is 26 now, but he was 15 months then and I had all his photos that were professionally taken in my wallet. Back then you didn\u2019t have your <\/span>cellphone with the pictures. They have water damage but you can make him out.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The purse had been zipped up so most of its contents — baby photos, lipstick, old credit cards to stores that no longer exist, Clemson University-themed checks and of course, her 1990s hair teasing comb — were still intact, despite lurking around the 29-foot-deep lake for 25 years.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI remember being upset because my favorite lipstick was in there and the color was discontinued,\u201d she said with a laugh. \u201cI also had this comb with a pick on the end of it. My daughter is a hairdresser and when she saw it, she was like, \u2018You\u2019ve got to be kidding me.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Bolt remembers the day her purse vanished like it was yesterday.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe were on the boat and my parents had a condo there and we were grilling burgers and we parked the boat in the slip,\u201d she recalled. \u201cI had all the baby\u2019s stuff and I just left it on the boat covered up. There were two guys there fishing and, I hate to accuse anybody, but when we got back I was like, \u2018My pocket book is gone.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was crying,\u201d she continued. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t a whole lot of cash — maybe like $60. But a woman fits her whole life in her purse. It was devastating.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

She\u2019s thrilled to finally have the purse back and is amazed by Brooks\u2019 needle-in-a-haystack find.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone keeps telling me, \u2018There\u2019s got to be a meaning to why you\u2019re finding this so many years later,\u201d said Bolt. \u201cI\u2019m sure God will reveal that in time. It\u2019s just so precious to have it back. Even the pictures, even though they\u2019re all messed up.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
