{"id":34649,"date":"2017-07-14T05:26:06","date_gmt":"2017-07-14T05:26:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/?p=34649"},"modified":"2017-07-14T05:26:06","modified_gmt":"2017-07-14T05:26:06","slug":"michelle-obama-wins-the-night-at-the-espys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/news\/michelle-obama-wins-the-night-at-the-espys.html","title":{"rendered":"Michelle Obama wins the night at the ESPYs"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">Michelle Obama wins the night at the ESPYs<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;color: #000000;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">Michelle Obama wins the night at the ESPYs:- The ESPYs are all about celebrating the biggest and boldest names in sports \u2014 but at Wednesday\u2019s award show, it was former first lady Michelle Obama who took home the prize for loudest applause of the night.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;color: #000000;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">The audience at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles rose to a standing ovation when Obama took the stage to posthumously present Special Olympics founder Eunice Kennedy Shriver with the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;color: #000000;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">Obama gave a heartfelt speech praising Shriver\u2019s lifelong work on behalf of people with disabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;color: #000000;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">\u201cI am here tonight to honor a remarkable woman, a woman who believed that everyone has something to contribute and everyone deserves the chance to push themselves, to find out what they\u2019re made of, and to compete and win,\u201d Obama told the crowd. \u201cThrough her passionate service, she made the world more welcoming and fair.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;color: #000000;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">Shriver, who died in 2009, was inspired by her sister Rosemary, who was born with intellectual disabilities but loved to play sports with her athletic siblings. In 1962, Shriver created Camp Shriver, a day camp for children with intellectual disabilities hosted in her family\u2019s back yard. Six years later, her effort evolved into the first International Special Olympics Games in Chicago.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;color: #000000;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">The former first lady, clad in a striking black dress, was joined onstage by eight Special Olympics athletes as well as Shriver\u2019s son Tim Shriver, who accepted the award on his mother\u2019s behalf.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;color: #000000;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">\u201cOnce a great first lady, still a great first lady,\u201d he said of Obama, and the crowd cheered its approval.
