{"id":34527,"date":"2017-07-13T07:32:13","date_gmt":"2017-07-13T07:32:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/?p=34527"},"modified":"2017-07-13T07:34:33","modified_gmt":"2017-07-13T07:34:33","slug":"researchers-say-a-common-coffee-sweetener-could-be-the-ingredient-to-help-cure-lyme-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/lifestyle\/researchers-say-a-common-coffee-sweetener-could-be-the-ingredient-to-help-cure-lyme-disease.html","title":{"rendered":"Researchers say a common coffee sweetener could be the ingredient to help cure Lyme Disease"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Researchers say a common coffee sweetener could be the ingredient to help cure Lyme Disease<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 14pt\">Researchers say a common coffee sweetener could be the ingredient to help cure Lyme Disease:- WEST HAVEN (WTIC) &#8212; With a reported increase in ticks, concern is growing for Lyme and other tick borne diseases, but researchers may be one step closer to a cure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 14pt\">Dr. Eva Sapi, Chairwoman of the Department of Biology and Environmental Science at the University of New Haven believes the sweetener, Stevia, may be the ingredient for a cure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 14pt\">As Director of Lyme Disease Research at UNH, Sapi and a group of students have been testing the sugar substitute against the bacteria that causes Lyme disease, Borrelia burgdorferi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 14pt\">The group tested the effectiveness of Stevia in fighting Borrelia burgdorferi compared to several antibiotics, including doxycycline, cefoperazone, daptomycin, and even combinations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 14pt\">In a research paper published in the European Journal of Microbiology and Immunology, the group outlines that the liquid form of whole-leaf stevia extract has found the most success in preventing the Lyme causing bacteria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 14pt\">Sapi was in the process of cancer research when she was diagnosed with Lyme Disease.
