A two-minute clip of the segment was teased on the program\u2019s Twitter account earlier Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Scarborough tore into what he characterized as a complacent Republican Party unwilling to stand up to President Trump.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">\u201cYou have to ask yourself, what exactly is the Republican Party willing to do?\u201d Scarborough said to Colbert. \u201cHow far are they willing to go? How much of this country and our values are they willing to sell out?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">\u201cAren\u2019t you a Republican?\u201d Colbert asked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">\u201cI am a Republican, but I\u2019m not going to be a Republican anymore,\u201d Scarborough said to loud applause from the audience. \u201cI\u2019ve got to become an independent.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Scarborough and Brzezinski came under fire from President Trump and his administration in recent months for their sharp criticism of his leadership skills and conduct in the White House. The two, who announced their engagement in the spring, once considered Trump a close friend but distanced themselves from the president during his campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">The tension escalated in the last several weeks when Brzezinski called into question Trump\u2019s mental competency in a segment on their show. The president responded in a series of harsh tweets, calling the co-hosts \u201cPsycho Joe\u201d and \u201clow-I. Q. Crazy Mika.\u201d Trump also claimed that Brzezinski \u201cwas bleeding badly from a facelift\u201d when he saw her and Scarborough during a brief visit to Mar-a-Lago last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">In a commentary the hosts wrote and published in The Washington Post, they called the president\u2019s allegations false and offensive and said that they \u201chave noticed a change in his behavior over the past few years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">\u201cPerhaps that is why we were neither shocked nor insulted by the president\u2019s personal attack,\u201d they wrote. \u201cThe Donald Trump we knew before the campaign was a flawed character but one who still seemed capable of keeping his worst instincts in check.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">In the \u201cLate Show\u201d segment, Scarborough and Brzezinski addressed their complicated relationship with the president and his intense dislike of \u201cMorning Joe.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Colbert asked the duo what specific change they had seen in Trump since he announced his candidacy because, in \u201cThe Late Show\u201d hosts words, the business mogul has always been a \u201cprimo tool.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">\u201cHe used to know he was a tool,\u201d Brzezinski replied, explaining that they believe Trump used to be aware and in control of the game he was playing. Now, Scarborough said, he is in over his head.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Scarborough said the modern day Republican Party was \u201cnot a party that Ronald Reagan could associate with,\u201d and not one he wants to claim any longer either. He told Colbert that he still believes in the core values of conservatism \u2014 lower taxes, small government \u2014 but that the party\u2019s silence in the face of Trump\u2019s racism is unacceptable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">His dissatisfaction, though, has been building for some time, Scarborough said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">\u201cI think it\u2019s inexplicable. This was well before Donald Trump was elected president that my party has betrayed their core values,\u201d he said, criticizing Trump\u2019s so-called \u201cMuslim ban\u201d and the party\u2019s reluctance to admonish comments perceived as racist, including the president\u2019s assertions that Indiana-born District Court Judge Gonzalo P. Curiel could not be impartial because of his \u201cMexican heritage.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">\u201cIt was disturbing through the entire campaign,\u201d Scarborough said. \u201cIn February, when he talked about David Duke and pretended he didn\u2019t know who David Duke was and didn\u2019t know what the Ku Klux Klan did. You didn\u2019t have Republicans coming out, saying \u2018I can never support Donald Trump because he\u2019s racist.\u2019 They had 1,000 other excuses why.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Republicans, he said, turned the other way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">\u201cThey\u2019re doing the same thing now and it\u2019s actually disgusting,\u201d Scarborough said, referring to investigations into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">\u201cWhat have you heard from Republican leaders today?\u201d Scarborough said. \u201cNothing. There\u2019s always silence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Scarborough has been the conservative voice of \u201cMorning Joe\u201d for a decade, often sparring alongside Brzezinksi.
