\n\tMatt Shoemaker finally showed off his 2016 form.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tShoemaker held the Detroit Tigers to three hits in six innings, leading the Los Angeles Angels to a 7-0 victory on Friday night.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t"That looks like Shoemaker when he's on," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "He was terrific."<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tMike Trout and Luis Valbuena homered to lead a 14-hit attack for the Angels, who enjoyed their largest margin of victory this year.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tShoemaker (2-2) struck out seven and walked one. He improved to 3-1 with a 0.83 ERA lifetime against the Tigers.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t"I don't know if it's baffling to me," said Tigers manager Brad Ausmus. "Shoemaker has kind of stuck it to us since I've been here."<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tShoemaker is a Michigan native who pitched at Eastern Michigan University. He said he gets a little fired up to pitch against his hometown team.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t"I was just being aggressive and pitching with intent," Shoemaker said. "Now I have to pitch that way against every team."<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Angels scored runs against Jordan Zimmerman (3-2) in four of his six innings. Valbuena's solo home run started the scoring in the second and Trout's two-run blast completed it in the eighth.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tZimmerman was charged with five runs on 10 hits and three walks in his 5 1\/3 innings.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t"The velocity is pretty good, it's the command," Ausmus said. "He threw some good breaking balls, they just weren't consistently in the spot he wanted."<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tValbuena and Cliff Pennington each had three hits. Andrelton Simmons and Kole Calhoun had two apiece.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Tigers looked as though they would break through first when they loaded the bases with no outs in the second inning, but Shoemaker got the next three outs.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t"You have to calm yourself down in those situations and just execute pitches," Shoemaker said.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tShoemaker was never in trouble again. He retired his last 10 consecutive batters.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tBlake Parker, David Hernandez and Keynan Middleton completed only the second shutout of the season for the Angels.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tTRAINER'S ROOM<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tTigers: Placed outfielder Jim Adduci on the 10-day disabled list with a right oblique strain retroactive to May 11 and reinstated J.D. Martinez from the DL. Martinez (foot sprain) was immediately placed in the lineup and batted sixth.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tAngels: Closer Cam Bedrosian, on the disabled list since April 22 with a right groin strain, has yet to throw off a mound. Scioscia said he still needs more long toss, but could be scheduled for the mound next week.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tSECOND BASE WOES<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tStruggling second baseman Danny Espinosa (0 for 34) remained benched against the Tigers, with Scioscia starting Pennington. Said Scioscia: "Espy is a guy who in the field is a difference-maker. We definitely would like to get him where he needs to be. You have to balance that with the needs of the team."<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n
