\n\t1. Did House Republicans kick a hornet’s nest with their bill to repeal Obamacare?<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThat was the question the morning after the bill’s passage. Democrats say they’ll capitalize on anger over the bill to take back the House in 2018.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThat’s why they sang “Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye)” during the vote. And they were speaking from experience — they lost control of the chamber after passing the Affordable Care Act in 2010.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tHere’s how every member voted on Thursday. And we have more on their political fortunes on our podcast, “The Daily.”<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t2. Unemployment’s at a 10-year low, according to the latest numbers from the Labor Department.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t3. Prosecutors in Texas are bringing murder charges against the police officer accused of fatally shooting 15-year-old Jordan Edwards near Dallas last weekend.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe officer, Roy Oliver, was dismissed from the Balch Springs Police Department. Officers were responding to reports of underage drinking at a house party when the shooting occurred.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t4. The Senate Intelligence Committee asked several Trump campaign associates to hand over records of their contacts with Russian officials and businesspeople.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe requests open the way for subpoenas for anyone who doesn’t comply. Among those said to have gotten requests: Roger Stone, above in July; Carter Page, Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t5. A Navy SEAL was killed during a raid against Shabab militants in Somalia.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tIt was believed to be the first American combat death in Somalia since the “Black Hawk Down” battle in 1993, which caused the U.S. to pull out of the country.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tPresident Trump’s second nominee for Army Secretary, Mark Green, withdrew himself from consideration. He had been accused of bias by L.G.B.T. groups.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t6. North Korea accused South Korea and the U.S. of plotting to kill Kim Jong-un.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tA government statement said a “hideous terrorists’ group” had been sent to kill the leader with biochemical agents.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tAnd it warned of an unspecified counterattack. South Korea’s spy agency denied the accusation.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t7. Dust storms blanketed Beijing and other parts of northern China for a second day in a row.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tFlights were canceled and air pollution levels soared well above what’s considered hazardous.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tFifty years ago, such storms happened every seven or eight years. Now they’re an annual occurrence, as China’s deserts expand at a startling pace. Experts blame urbanization and climate change.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t8. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada met his Irish counterpart, Enda Kenny, in Montreal on Thursday, also known as International Star Wars Day.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThey discussed trade, and the internet discussed Mr. Trudeau’s mismatched “Star Wars” socks.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tOur fashion writer says it was a deft political move. “There’s nothing like bonding over a mass-movie phenomenon to convince a swath of voters that you share their value system,” she wrote.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t9. Just two days before France goes to the polls, the campaign of Emmanuel Macron said it was the target of a “massive” hacking attack after internal campaign documents were published online.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tSupporters of the centrist candidate are trying to get out the vote in immigrant communities to stop the far-right populist Marine Le Pen. Our videographer tagged along as they canvassed in a Paris suburb.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n
