\n\tNew iPhone 8 Report Backs Radical New Camera:- When it comes to smartphone cameras quality is obviously a very big deal; the major players usually leapfrogging each other with each major release.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tHowever, while Samsung seems content to stick with last year’s (albeit rather excellent) camera module in the new S8 and S8+ flagships launched yesterday, it appears Apple could be about to release something altogether more radical in the forthcoming iPhone 8.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tA new report adds weight to rumours that Apple may be about to launch a 3D sensing augmented reality selfie camera in the forthcoming iPhone 8.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe report coming from Charlie Chan, of Morgan Stanley, points to Himax Technologies as one of possibly several companies tipped to be producing the new components required for the camera.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe report, picked up this week by Barron’s notes that Himax has ‘soared 56% this year on expectations that it will supply 3D sensing components to Apple for its upcoming iPhone 8’.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe news follows a note to investors, seen last month by Business Insider and authored by KGI Securities analyst and famed Apple Soothsayer, Ming-Chi Kuo, in which Kuo claims that the iPhone 8 looks set to feature a revolutionary 3D sensing camera.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tKuo goes on to provide details of the technology which is said to include discreet infrared transmitter and receiver modules bringing technologies which could “reinvent the user experience” and also claims that Apple is years ahead of the Android platform when it comes to 3D algorithms, giving the company a sizeable head start against competitors which “will make the advanced 3D camera sensor a unique iPhone feature for a couple of years”.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tHowever, according to the Barron’s report, Chan believes a sizeable proportion of Humax’s stock performance will come from 3D sensing components placed in non-Apple smartphones, with the technology contributing 20% of Himax’s 2018 revenue.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tObviously, hardware alone isn’t enough to ‘reinvent the user experience’ and Apple’s long history of exceptional image processing, along with the 3D algorithms alluded to by Kuo, may well place the iPhone 8 ahead of the competition. However, if Chan is to be believed, we may see similar 3D sensing components in non-Apple phones sooner than Kuo predicts.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n
