{"id":22294,"date":"2017-02-16T04:33:48","date_gmt":"2017-02-16T04:33:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/?p=22294"},"modified":"2017-02-16T04:33:48","modified_gmt":"2017-02-16T04:33:48","slug":"conservative-talk-radio-stands-trump-despite-turmoil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/news\/conservative-talk-radio-stands-trump-despite-turmoil.html","title":{"rendered":"Conservative Talk Radio Stands by Trump Despite Turmoil"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:22px;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Conservative Talk Radio Stands by Trump Despite Turmoil<\/span><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>Conservative Talk Radio Stands by Trump Despite Turmoil:-<\/strong> Between the resignation of his national security adviser and the revelation that his campaign aides and other associates had repeated contacts with Russian intelligence officials, it has been a tough week for President Trump.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">But if his supporters on the right were beginning to doubt him, there was no sign of it on conservative talk radio, where Mr. Trump&rsquo;s contention that he was a victim of leaks and entrenched Washington insiders lit up phone lines around the country.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">&ldquo;There is no evidence for the primary assertion that is driving this entire attack on Trump,&rdquo; Rush Limbaugh, the prominent conservative radio host, said on Wednesday afternoon. &ldquo;This attack is coming from the shadows of the deep state, where former Obama employees remain in the intelligence community.&rdquo; In another accusation, he said, &ldquo;They are lying about things, hoping to make it easier for them and the Obama shadow government to eventually get rid of Trump and everybody in his administration.&rdquo;<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">How much of conservative America agreed with that particular defense was unclear. But the underlying thrust of the allegations &mdash; that Mr. Trump has liberal enemies who want to see him fail, and that they include the news media &mdash; appeared to strike a chord with talk radio listeners on Wednesday.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">&ldquo;The media is road blocking Trump and his administration in every which way possible,&rdquo; said a woman who called in on Mr. Limbaugh&rsquo;s show on Wednesday. &ldquo;And not that anything is illegal or illegitimate; it&rsquo;s just they&rsquo;re digging and digging.&rdquo;<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Americans are bitterly divided and often see events through their partisan lenses. On talk programs across the country, responses divided neatly along party lines. Liberals saw the resignation of the national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, as a sign that the administration was ethically compromised and playing fast and loose with national security. Conservatives saw a hostile elite arrayed against Mr. Trump.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Clint Bellows, a conservative talk radio host in Omaha, said in an interview before his Wednesday evening program that he had been disturbed by the &ldquo;pretty serious leaks going on&rdquo; in the government. He said his listeners were unmoved by Democratic arguments that the Flynn situation indicated a national security threat.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">&ldquo;In the context of the last eight years, it&rsquo;s a joke to conservative America, and it&rsquo;s a joke&rdquo; to Trump voters, Mr. Bellows said, adding that the mainstream press had &ldquo;coddled&rdquo; President Barack Obama.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Mr. Bellows said the current discourse signaled a threat to conservatives, who see evidence of a liberal effort to delegitimize Mr. Trump.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">&ldquo;There isn&rsquo;t going to be any harmony: They&rsquo;re out to bring this guy down,&rdquo; Mr. Bellows said, referring to &ldquo;the Democrats and the liberals and the left.&rdquo;<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">&ldquo;They hate the fact that he was elected,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;They&rsquo;re astonished that he was elected.&rdquo;<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Another host in Omaha, Matt Tompkins, whose radio show does not claim a partisan viewpoint and who was critical of the Trump administration at times on Wednesday, bemoaned the loss of civility in public discourse.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">&ldquo;Now it&rsquo;s like you have to hate the other person, the other party,&rdquo; Mr. Tompkins said. &ldquo;You bring up a discussion or a debate on anything &mdash; Russia, whatever it may be we&rsquo;re talking about today &mdash; and I&rsquo;ll get messages from people that are just: &lsquo;No, that&rsquo;s completely wrong. Everything you said is fake. The New York Times is fake. It&rsquo;s all fake. You&rsquo;re an idiot. I hate you.&rsquo;&rdquo;<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">A wide variety of people voted for Mr. Trump, including moderate conservatives who were mainly trying to block Hillary Clinton from being elected. In interviews on Wednesday, moderates, too, were for the most part standing by Mr. Trump. They said that it seemed Mr. Flynn had made mistakes, but that ultimately, Mr. Trump had taken responsibility and asked him to step down.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">&ldquo;If you think about it, at the end of the day, he said &lsquo;you&rsquo;re fired,&rsquo;&rdquo; said Michael Fortune, a pension plan administrator in Atlanta. &ldquo;He&rsquo;s handled this situation appropriately.&rdquo;<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">He added: &ldquo;The way it&rsquo;s being presented is that he hired a liar. I&rsquo;m like, guys, I don&rsquo;t think that&rsquo;s how the common man sees it. He fired someone who was not honest with him.&rdquo;<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Jeff Wagner, a conservative talk show host in Milwaukee, noted that during the presidential campaign, he was not a supporter of Mr. Trump, and said he believed that some of the administration&rsquo;s actions so far should have been executed differently. But he defended the president on his show, denouncing the news media and the intelligence community for their roles in revealing that Mr. Trump&rsquo;s campaign aides were in contact with Russian intelligence officials before the election.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">He read from an article in The New York Times that detailed those contacts.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">&ldquo;You&rsquo;ve got four American officials who are talking to the press about supposedly classified intercepts that were made,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;You have people who are privy to private intelligence information who are now apparently speaking to The New York Times and The Washington Post.&rdquo;<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">&ldquo;Let me translate this,&rdquo; he added. &ldquo;You apparently have four Americans with access to classified materials who are speaking to the media. Now, is that not a crime? Is that not potentially treason?&rdquo;<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Mr. Wagner cited a Fox News poll finding that Mr. Trump has a 48 percent approval rating; his callers echoed their support of the president.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">One caller, identified as Lou from Brown Deer, Wis., said that he strongly approved of Mr. Trump&rsquo;s actions in the first month of his presidency.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">&ldquo;Now you have the feeling that something is being done in this country,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;And we are starting to get the protection here.&rdquo;<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Another caller, identified as Mark from Franklin, Wis., said he also strongly approved of Mr. Trump.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">&ldquo;He&rsquo;s stirring the pot, just like he promised during the campaign,&rdquo; he said.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Vicki McKenna, a conservative talk show host in Wisconsin, dismissed the scandal surrounding Mr. Flynn as &ldquo;hysteria.&rdquo;<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">&ldquo;Why was the intelligence community eavesdropping on Michael Flynn?&rdquo; she asked. &ldquo;No. 2: Why did they transcribe the information? And No. 3: Why did they leak it to the press out of context, in a way to damage Michael Flynn? Those three acts are illegal.&rdquo;<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Steve D&rsquo;Angelo, 61, who lives in Manhattan and works for a financial firm, said in an interview that it was hard to tell what to believe.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">&ldquo;What happened with Flynn, it&rsquo;s hard for me to say,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t know if he&rsquo;s like one of the good guys who is apolitical, or really not a good guy.&rdquo;<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">He said he still supported Mr. Trump.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">&ldquo;In some respect, even though he&rsquo;s a blowhard, I think Trump is a victim in some ways,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;He&rsquo;s not playing the agencies&rsquo; games, whatever they are. I think he&rsquo;s underestimating how powerful the forces are out there.
