\n\tTimberwolves Crush Bulls, Their Coach Former Team:- Andrew Wiggins scored 27 points, and Karl-Anthony Towns added 22 to help the Timberwolves beat the short-handed Chicago Bulls, 117-89, in Minnesota on Sunday.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tRicky Rubio had 17 points, 11 assists and 6 rebounds, and Minnesota shot 54 percent to help Coach Tom Thibodeau sweep the season series against his former team. Gorgui Dieng added 10 points and 13 rebounds.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tDoug McDermott scored 16 points and had four 3-pointers for the Bulls, who were missing Jimmy Butler, Dwyane Wade, Nikola Mirotic and Paul Zipser with injuries. The Bulls turned the ball over 18 times and were outrebounded by 46-35.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThibodeau’s bitter split from the Bulls is well documented, but much of the drama was addressed during Minnesota’s visit to Chicago in December. The Timberwolves overcame a 21-point deficit to win that game.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tJordan Spieth won the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in California for the ninth PGA Tour title of his young career. Spieth started the final round with a six-shot lead, and no one came closer than three all day. He putted for birdie on all but one hole and closed with a two-under 70 for a four-shot victory over the former United States Amateur champion Kelly Kraft, who shot a 67. The United States Open champion Dustin Johnson had a 68 to finish third.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tIt was Spieth’s first 54-hole lead on the PGA Tour since the Masters, where he lost a five-shot lead on the back nine at Augusta National. Spieth, a 23-year-old Texan, ran off 14 straight pars until a 30-foot birdie on the par-3 17th. That allowed for an easy walk up the 18th with a four-shot lead.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tSpieth’s other birdie was on the par-5 second, where he two-putted from 12 feet. He finished at 19-under 268.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tJones, who came into the game with the top field-goal percentage in the nation at 69.2 percent, raised that mark by going 9 for 12. She made her first seven shots from the floor and did not miss one until the final minute of the third quarter. Marina Mabrey had 25 points as No. 7 Notre Dame (23-3, 11-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) picked up its seventh straight win, 90-69 over visiting Georgia Tech (14-11, 3-9). Alanna Smith scored 16 points, and No. 8 Stanford (22-4, 12-2 Pacific-12) ran off 18 straight first-quarter points in an 87-51 rout of visiting Utah (15-10, 4-10).<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tBraves Acquire Phillips From Reds<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Atlanta Braves acquired second baseman Brandon Phillips from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for pitchers Andrew McKirahan, a left-hander, and Carlos Portuondo, a minor league right-hander.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tBraves General Manager John Coppolella called Phillips a “Gold Glove-caliber defender who will also deepen our offensive lineup.” Phillips is a three-time All-Star.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tPhillips, who is signed through the 2017 season, has a .275 batting average, with 197 home runs, in 15 major league seasons and is 137 hits shy of 2,000.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n
