{"id":22029,"date":"2017-02-13T09:04:31","date_gmt":"2017-02-13T09:04:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/?p=22029"},"modified":"2017-02-13T09:05:06","modified_gmt":"2017-02-13T09:05:06","slug":"least-26-civilians-killed-afghan-province","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/world-news\/least-26-civilians-killed-afghan-province.html","title":{"rendered":"At least 26 civilians killed in Afghan province"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:22px;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">At least 26 civilians killed in Afghan province<\/span><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>At least 26 civilians killed in Afghan province:-<\/strong> At least 26 civilians, most of them women and children, were killed in Afghanistan&#39;s Helmand province last week, most of them victims of airstrikes conducted by international forces, a UN relief organization said Sunday.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan said it &quot;expresses its grave concern&quot; over the deaths.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Eighteen of the civilians, &quot;nearly all women and children,&quot; were killed in Helmand&#39;s Sangin District amid airstrikes targeting &quot;anti-government elements,&quot; UNAMA said.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">The NATO-led Resolute Support Mission has begun an investigation into the incident, UNAMA said.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">NATO bills the mission as an effort &quot;to train, advise and assist the Afghan security forces and institutions.&quot; It consists of more than 13,000 troops, more than half of which come from the United States.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Helmand, in southern Afghanistan, had 891 civilian deaths or injuries last year, the highest total in the country outside of Kabul, UNAMA said.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><span style=\"font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">UNAMA also cited Saturday&#39;s Taliban suicide car bombing in Lashkar Gah, capital of Helmand province, that killed at least eight people and injured at least 19 others.
