{"id":19997,"date":"2017-01-21T07:23:06","date_gmt":"2017-01-21T07:23:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/?p=19997"},"modified":"2017-01-21T07:23:06","modified_gmt":"2017-01-21T07:23:06","slug":"trailstone-buys-cargills-power-and-gas-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biphoo.com\/bipnews\/business\/trailstone-buys-cargills-power-and-gas-group.html","title":{"rendered":"TrailStone buys Cargill&#8217;s power and gas group"},"content":{"rendered":"<div align=\"Justify\">\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">TrailStone buys Cargill&#8217;s power and gas group<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\"><strong>TrailStone buys Cargill&#8217;s power and gas group:-<\/strong> Commodities trader and investor TrailStone Group has purchased Cargill Inc&#8217;s gas and power trading group, three sources familiar with the deal said this week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">The move, first reported by Sparkspread, comes amid a reshuffling in the power and natural gas industry as private equity firms and hedge funds pour into the space, filling a void left by banks and other longtime players.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">The banks and others have been pulling back over the past several years as natural gas prices have reached lows not seen in a decade, due to abundant U.S. shale gas and increasingly strict capital requirements and regulations that have pressured banks to reduce their involvement in physical commodities markets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Swiss-based commodities trader Gunvor Group Ltd this year opened a natural gas trading desk in Connecticut, headed by a former director of natural gas for Freepoint Commodities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Last September, Hartree Partners lost its head of natural gas trading, and in May, U.S. investment bank Goldman Sachs Group Inc snagged Mercuria Energy Trading&#8217;s head of natural gas and power trading.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">TrailStone already had natural gas and power trading operations in the United States.
