color: #000000;\">He pledged to transfer power from Washington and &#8220;to (give) it back to you, the people.&#8221; He vowed to bring back jobs and to protect the border and drew loud applause by vowing to eradicate &#8220;radical Islam.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Trump calls out politicians in address<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Trump, surrounded by the elite of Washington establishment, also promised to &#8220;no longer accept politicians who are all talk and no action, constantly complaining but never doing anything about (it).&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">In assigning blame for such problems, he said that for too long, too few have had power and the people have paid the price.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Less than an hour after he finished his remarks by raising a clenched fist, Trump escorted his predecessor, Barack Obama, and now former first lady Michelle Obama, to a waiting helicopter that lifted off and circled the Capitol en route to Joint Base Andrews for a flight to the warmth of Palm Springs, Calif.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">After lunch and a round of toasts at the Capitol, Trump climbed back into the presidential limousine to lead the parade along the 1.5-mile route from the halls of Congress to the White House.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Protests turn violent blocks from parade route<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">The inauguration drew groups of protesters in several locations across the city. In one confrontation that became violent, two police officers were injured and store windows and ATMs were smashed. Police used pepper spray to control the crowd, some of whom were armed with crowbars and hammers, authorities said. About 90 people were arrested.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">New clashes erupted around 2 p.m. ET, as rocks were thrown, police in riot gear assembled and people ran. Police said demonstrators caused &#8220;significant damage to a number of blocks.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">In Chicago, several hundreds of protesters gathered for an anti-Trump rally before marching through downtown streets during rush hour chanting, &#8220;No hate, no fear, immigrants are welcome here.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">At one point, the protesters gathered near the Trump International Hotel and Tower, where they chanted &#8220;Trump can&#8217;t build a wall, his hands are too small.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Chicago is a so-called sanctuary city&#8211; one of dozens of cities across the U.S. that in some way limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement agents. Mayor Rahm Emanuel has vowed to maintain that status despite Trump&#8217;s pledge on the campaign trail to strip federal funding from sanctuary cities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Major protests were also planned for Saturday, when some 200,000 people were expected to turn out, including a Women&#8217;s March on Washington.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Choreographed ritual for the peaceful transfer of power<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Trump, a 70-year-old billionaire and self-styled &#8220;disrupter,&#8221; was joined at the swearing-in by his wife and children. Also on hand were three of the four living former presidents, members of the Supreme Court and leaders of Congress. In addition, his Democratic rival in the election, Hillary Clinton was in attendance, tweeting that she was there &#8220;to honor our democracy &amp; its enduring values.
