Storm pummels parts of California, Nevada:-<\/strong> A winter storm pummeling California with heavy rain and gusty winds uprooted trees, delayed flights and caused traffic headaches.<\/span><\/p>\n

The storm has already left a woman dead in San Ramon, Calif., and prompted residents in southern Reno to evacuate more than 1,300 homes, officials said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The storm could last through Thursday, with a 100% chance of rain at times, according to the National Weather Service. And park officials said visitors need to be prepared for additional road hazards throughout the week.<\/span><\/p>\n

Officials urged residents to avoid driving through standing water and stay off rural roads, where rescues could be difficult.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cRivers are expected to rise and are currently running very fast,\u201d said Mike Theune, a parks spokesman. \u201cPlease don\u2019t go near them. As the storms exit the area, temperatures are expected to drop.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Crews cleared trees, rocks and debris following mudslides caused by steady rain accompanying the system that could dump 15 inches in foothill areas when it’s done. Several feet of snow are expected in the Sierra Nevada.<\/span><\/p>\n

A group of local and national media stood inside Yosemite National Park Saturday and Sunday. A chain and lock barred them from going outdoors at night and the river flirted with toppling over into the valley floor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Authorities were watching rising water levels of several rivers, including the Cosumnes, Truckee, Merced, American and Russian.<\/span><\/p>\n

Northern California<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier Sunday, a homeless man was rescued after being pinned by a toppled tree in Golden Gate park. On Saturday, a woman taking a walk on a San Ramon golf course was killed after a falling tree struck her.<\/span><\/p>\n

Officials say winds with gusts of up to 60 mph have uprooted dozens of trees.<\/span><\/p>\n

There were mudslides and flooding throughout Northern California that led to road closures Sunday, especially in the North Bay, one of the areas hardest hit and where the Napa River jumped its banks.<\/span><\/p>\n

San Francisco Airport reported delays of more than four hours because of the storm.<\/span><\/p>\n

At least two fatal accidents, possibly linked to the storm, were reported in the East Bay Sunday, including a man whose taxicab plunged into the estuary near Oakland International Airport.<\/span><\/p>\n

State line<\/span><\/p>\n

More than 1,000 homes have been evacuated in Reno as much of the Sierra\u2019s eastern front braces for the worst flooding in a decade.<\/span><\/p>\n

Emergency officials say residents voluntarily evacuated a total of 1,300 homes in a south Reno neighborhood Sunday as the Truckee River began to leave its banks and drainage ditches started to overflow south of Interstate 80.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many area roads have been closed, but no injuries were reported.<\/span><\/p>\n

The National Weather Service says the storm that has already dropped several inches of rain in the area is tracking pretty much as they expected.<\/span><\/p>\n

Schools are closed throughout the Reno-Sparks area on Monday. Authorities say they expect Reno-Tahoe International Airport to remain open.<\/span><\/p>\n
