Cowboys Ezekiel Elliott, Dak Prescott want to play Sunday vs. Eagles:-<\/strong>Should they play, or should they rest?<\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s the question the Dallas Cowboys must answer as they enter a regular-season finale that has no bearing on their postseason seeding but could prove hazardous to star players nonetheless.<\/span><\/p>\n

Quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott make up the rookie duo so vital to the team\u2019s playoff aspirations. And even as Dallas prepares to face the Philadelphia Eagles in a largely meaningless affair, the pair of MVP candidates is stressing that they want to remain sharp.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I understand that,\u201d Prescott told reporters Wednesday at his locker. \u201cBut the competitor in me wants to play.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Cowboys went into Monday night\u2019s game against the Detroit Lions having already clinched the NFC East and the home-field advantage that comes with being the conference’s No. 1 seed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite that, Prescott played all 52 offensive snaps, and Elliott was removed only after Dallas’ 42-21 victory got out of hand.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Especially with the bye in the playoffs, we want to continue this momentum,\u201d Elliott told reporters. \u201cWe don\u2019t want to take two weeks off to try to come back and play at the highest level of football that you\u2019ve played in your whole career. I definitely want to play.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Dallas held a walkthrough Wednesday, and as he has all week, coach Jason Garrett didn\u2019t deviate from his script.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to prepare our guys,\u201d he said at his press conference. \u201cEverybody who is healthy is going to prepare and get ready to play their best ball game.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Vegas, however, isn\u2019t buying what the Cowboys are selling.<\/span><\/p>\n

As Dallas (13-2) prepares to travel to Philadelphia (6-9), the spread for Sunday\u2019s game is hovering at four points, with the Eagles being favored. Though that\u2019s a drop from the opening line, which was near a touchdown, sportsbooks are clearly anticipating many Cowboys starters will get some rest. Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith won’t be active as he nurses a knee injury.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s quality reps in this game against a quality team in our division that we\u2019ll play for years to come that I\u2019ll face off against,\u201d Prescott said. \u201cAny reps I can get against a good team to get myself better to get some momentum going for the playoffs, I\u2019ll take it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Prescott added that he has not had a discussion with the coaching staff about his playing time and is \u201cjust going to be ready to play the whole game.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Against Detroit, he was sacked once but was also brought down six times on designed runs, scrambles, and a sack that was negated by a penalty.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI took some unnecessary hits,\u201d Prescott said. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t say I took too many hits.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Elliott leads the NFL in carries with 322, 34 more than the next-closest player, Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI feel good actually,\u201d Elliott said. \u201cIn college, I was playing 80 plays a week. So I think you look at it, I only play about 40, 50 plays a week max. I\u2019m not really playing that many plays in the pros, but I think my body is adjusting well. I think that I\u2019m doing fine, I\u2019m doing great.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\nBut how many hits is too many?<\/span><\/p>\n

Just ask the Oakland Raiders, who must now rely on backup Matt McGloin after star quarterback Derek Carr broke his fibula Saturday when the team held a 19-point lead against the Indianapolis Colts. Oakland\u2019s Super Bowl aspirations have taken a huge hit.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou guys say meaningful games. Everything is meaningful,\u201d Elliott said. \u201cI mean, it may not matter if we win or lose it, but it matters in the total grand scheme of things. We\u2019re trying to stay sharp. We\u2019re trying to have a sharp edge going into these playoffs like a high-octane machine.<\/span><\/p>\n
