Musk announced a revamped Autopilot in September, with some functions deactivated for Tesla drivers while the updates were being completed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Some customers on Tesla online forums grumbled about the temporary loss of the feature, and worried how the new system would perform.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">\u201cI\u2019m super super bummed about Autopilot not working, it really is the main reason I bought a Tesla,\u201d a Tesla owner in Phoenix wrote on the Tesla Motor Club website. \u201cI should be super excited about this, (but) I\u2019m more bummed not having a lot of the features that I\u2019m excited about.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">The driver-assist package for the Model S and Model X electric vehicles has come under scrutiny and upheaval this year. It\u2019s been associated with two fatal crashes in the U.S. and China. Tesla\u2019s partnership with Mobileye, a leading supplier of camera sensors and software that powered the semi-autonomous feature, collapsed in July.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Musk announced the revamped Autopilot would rely more on radar and software enhancements. Tesla started adding radar sensors to its vehicles in October 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">A Tesla driver died in a Florida crash in May while driving with Autopilot engaged. Both the driver and the system failed to brake when a tractor-trailer made a left-hand turn in front of the Model S.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Musk said the upgraded system likely would have prevented the crash. New features also include adjustments to autonomous braking and vehicle lane centering.
