President Obama shouldn’t pardon Clinton, Giuliani says<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

President Obama shouldn’t pardon Clinton, Giuliani says:-<\/strong> Rudy Giuliani, a leading contender to be President-elect Donald Trump\u2019s attorney general, said Thursday that President Barack Obama shouldn\u2019t pardon Hillary Clinton.<\/span><\/p>\n

Obama \u201cshould leave it to the system we all believe in,\u201d Giuliani said on Fox News.<\/span><\/p>\n

The White House on Wednesday wouldn\u2019t rule out issuing a pardon to protect Clinton from prosecution by the incoming administration over her use of a private email server as Obama\u2019s secretary of state, an issue that dogged the Democrat\u2019s presidential campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trump during the campaign proposed appointing a special prosecutor to investigate Clinton. During one debate with Clinton, Trump said that if he were in charge of U.S. law enforcement, Clinton \u201cwould be in jail.\u201d Chants of \u201clock her up!\u201d were a staple at his rallies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Giuliani suggested the question of pardoning Clinton isn\u2019t just tied to her email, but also to her family\u2019s charitable foundation, which he said is under investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Giuliani said the U.S. has two traditions that are in conflict with each other. One, he said, is that \u201cwe try to get over the anger and everything else about an election after it\u2019s over with and put it behind us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t like to see America become a country in which we prosecute people, you know, about politics,\u201d he said. \u201cOn the other hand, there are deep and disturbing issues there in which if you don\u2019t investigate them \u2014 \u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re going to continue,\u201d one of the Fox News hosts said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd also, it\u2019s hard to investigate other people,\u201d Giuliani said. \u201cWhat do you say to a foundation that …. where there is an alleged fraud in the millions or hundreds of millions of dollars? Now, it may be true it\u2019s not true, but it hasn\u2019t been investigated.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a very tough balance and that\u2019s why I don\u2019t think President Obama should pardon her,\u201d Giuliani said. \u201cI think President Obama should leave it to the system we all believe in to determine, is she innocent or is she guilty?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Turning back to the issue of classified information that was at the center of the FBI probe into Clinton\u2019s server, Giuliani said that if she were pardoned, David Petraeus and James Cartwright also would have to be.<\/span><\/p>\n

The FBI\u2019s New York field office opened an inquiry into the Clinton Foundation, a step short of a formal investigation. FBI agents sought approval in February to advance the inquiry further, with tools such as subpoenas and wiretaps, but the Justice Department declined to grant the request because officials found the evidence too weak, according to a law enforcement official.<\/span><\/p>\n

Foundation spokesmen Craig Minassian and Brian Cookstra did not immediately respond to request for comment.<\/span><\/p>\n

FBI Director James Comey said in July that while Clinton\u2019s handling of classified information was extremely careless, it didn\u2019t warrant criminal prosecution.<\/span><\/p>\n

Clinton during the campaign said her use of private email was a \u201cmistake\u201d but cited Comey\u2019s conclusion clearing her.<\/span><\/p>\n

Comey sent a shockwave through the presidential race on Oct. 28 by announcing a review of newly discovered e-mails that appeared pertinent to the Clinton investigation. Two days before the election, Comey affirmed his recommendation not to prosecute Clinton.<\/span><\/p>\n

Giuliani said that while he\u2019d \u201clove to be the person that comes up with the solution to cybersecurity,\u201d he\u2019d be open to a role in the new administration.<\/span><\/p>\n

Giuliani, 72, was mayor of New York City and ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008. He was the U.S. attorney for the southern district of New York and an associate U.S. attorney general in the 1980s.<\/span><\/p>\n
