On Tuesday at a national security roundtable with GOP Sens. John McCain of Arizona and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Heck said he likely would not reveal who he was voting for before the election, and voters didn\u2019t have a right to know anyway.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cIt\u2019s a personal decision who you vote for,\u201d Heck said. \u201cIt\u2019s a secret ballot, just like your ballot is a secret ballot.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The shadow of Trump is looming large over the Nevada Senate race, and Heck might have the most serious problem.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Trump has become an hindrance to several Republican candidates nationwide after the recordings leaked. That\u2019s trickled down the ballot in several races, including Heck\u2019s against former Democratic Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto to replace outgoing Sen. Harry Reid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Heck was ahead in the polls until the recordings surfaced in September and Heck called on Trump to resign. Since then, Cortez Masto has led in all the polls, save for one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">During a Tuesday campaign sweep in Reno, Heck tried to keep the discussion with voters on the issues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">But Trump is always there.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">For the most part, the national security roundtable with McCain and Graham was on topic, but Trump soon came up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cI look at the three of you and understand maybe you were wrong, your actions are promoting Hillary Clinton to become president because of your inaction in supporting the Republican nominee,\u201d said Jim Gallaway, a 76-year-old Marine Corps veteran from Reno. \u201cCan you explain why you think Congress can solve these problems without having an executive and why you\u2019re not trying to get the executive to be a Republican?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Heck answered that the executive should be someone who understands veterans and service members, unlike President Obama. He wanted the next commander-in-chief to have some military experience, or at least familiarity with the matter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThat\u2019s not a choice,\u201d Gallaway retorted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Heck tried to respond again and said his focus was on Congress and making sure it works for veterans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cSo you\u2019re dodging the question on who should be commander-in-chief?\u201d Gallaway asked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cI\u2019m not dodging the question who should be commander-in-chief, the American public will decide who the next commander-in-chief will be,\u201d Heck said. \u201cThat\u2019s what\u2019s going to happen on \u2014 actually two weeks from today. They\u2019ll decide who the next commander-in-chief is. I can tell you I have concerns about either person being the commander-in-chief.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Graham tried to save Heck during the answer, pivoting to the current administration and saying Obama lacked knowledge about national security.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cDoes that mean you can\u2019t vote for Joe Heck?\u201d Graham asked the crowd.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cNo, but it means he\u2019s not standing up for our party,\u201d one of the audience members replied.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">McCain, who has faced backlash in his own race for walking back his endorsement on Trump, didn\u2019t comment on the matter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">It\u2019s a tough spot for Heck, who adamantly railed against Clinton during his tenure as a Trump supporter.
