However, she was also battling HIV.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">According to the document, Arquette was living with the disease \u2014 the underlying cause of her death \u2014 for 29 years. She suffered a bacterial infection of the heart three weeks before she died of a heart attack on Sept. 11 at the age of 47.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/link.brightcove.com\/services\/player\/bcpid1250536613001\/?bctid=5134208992001\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">While Arquette transitioned to a woman in the early 2000s, her death certificate interestingly uses her full name, Robert Alexis Arquette, and lists male under sex.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Arquette\u2019s brother, Richmond, was the first to share the news of his sister\u2019s death.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cOur brother Robert, who became our sister Alexis, who became our brother Alexis, passed this morning September 11, at 12:32 am,\u201d he wrote on Facebook. \u201cHe was surrounded by all of his brothers and sisters, one of his nieces and several other loved ones.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Sister Patricia Arquette also took to social media to pay tribute to her late sibling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cTo My first best friend &#8211; Cosmic Dancer,\u201d she posted to Twitter, alongside a YouTube clip of the T.
