Trump offers ‘condolences’ for Chelsea blast killed<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Trump offers ‘condolences’ for Chelsea blast that killed no one, as other Republicans rush to dub it ‘act of terrorism’ without any evidence<\/strong> : Donald Trump offered his “condolences” on Sunday to the victims of the Chelsea explosion in a seemingly well-intentioned tweet with which there was one big problem: No one died in the Saturday evening blast.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I would like to express my warmest regards, best wishes and condolences to all of the families and victims of the horrible bombing in NYC,” the GOP nominee tweeted Sunday morning about the explosion that rocked a Chelsea street Saturday night.<\/span><\/p>\n

The blast left 29 people injured \u2014 one seriously \u2014 but they had all been treated and released from New York area hospitals by Sunday morning, according to officials.<\/span><\/p>\n

The explosion came just hours after a powerful pipe bomb exploded Saturday just before a Jersey Shore charity run and just moments before a knife-wielding attacker who made references to Allah went on a slashing spree on at a St. Cloud, Minn. mall.<\/span><\/p>\n

No injuries were reported in the New Jersey pipe-bomb blast, but eight people were wounded in the Minnesota mall attack.<\/span><\/p>\n

ISIS-linked media later claimed that the mall stabber was a “soldier of the Islamic State.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s reaction to the Chelsea explosion, meanwhile, was his second in a little more than 12 hours that came under criticism.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Saturday night, about half an hour after the explosion, Trump emerged from his private jet during a stop in Colorado Springs to tell supporters that “a bomb went off in New York.”<\/span><\/p>\n

At the time, Trump stood alone in declaring so soon the incident was a bombing. And as of Sunday morning, authorities still had not determined the exact cause or motive of the Chelsea blast.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hillary Clinton ripped into Trump for his rush to judgment, saying Saturday night it would have been “wise to wait” before the mogul ran his mouth.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I think it’s important to know the facts about any incident like this,” Clinton told reporters on her charter plane when asked about Trump’s jump to conclusions. “I think it’s also wiser to wait until you have information before making conclusions, because we are just in the beginning stages of trying to determine what happened.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

By Sunday, however, Clinton appeared to have all the information she needed to issue a blistering statement of her own.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI strongly condemn the apparent terrorist attacks in Minnesota, New Jersey, and New York. I pray for all of those who were wounded, and for their families,\u201d she said in a statement issued by her campaign. \u201cOnce again, we saw the bravery of our first responders who run toward danger to help others. Their quick actions saved lives. Law enforcement officials are working to identify who was behind the attacks in New York and New Jersey and we should give them the support they need to finish the job and bring those responsible to justice – we will not rest until that happens.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack in Minnesota, and this should steel our resolve to protect our country and defeat ISIS and other terrorist groups,\u201d Clinton added.<\/span><\/p>\n

Clinton\u2019s running mate Tim Kaine, for his part, played up the Democratic nominee\u2019s \u201cexperience.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cShe’s been through this. It’s been a searing experience in her life,\u201d the Virginia senator said on NBC\u2019s \u201cMeet the Press.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Kaine added the he didn\u2019t accept the attack as \u201ca new normal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe don’t know yet about the cause of these incidents. But we’re not allowing it to be a normal,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nevertheless, during an appearance on CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union,\u201d Kaine said the blast \u201craises the stakes on the need to be really, really smart in dealing with challenges like this, both with the law enforcement community but also to make sure we\u2019re doing what we can to stop any lone wolf attacks in the United States.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Kaine\u2019s GOP counterpart, Mike Pence told reporters in Florida, where he was visiting for a campaign event, that it would \u201cnot would not be appropriate for me to comment on an ongoing investigation other than to say that we are thankful in our hearts that that there was no loss of life as a result of these horrific attacks.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Other Republicans, however, didn’t heed the advice Sunday morning, with many dubbing the incident an act of terrorism.<\/span><\/p>\n
