Amber Heard, Johnny Depp reach divorce settlement<\/span><\/p>\n

Summer’s ugliest celebrity divorce has finally reached a conclusion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Johnny Depp, 52, and Amber Heard, 30, reached a settlement on Tuesday, the couple confirm in a joint statement.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love,” reads the couple’s joint statement, sent to USA TODAY. “Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity.”<\/span><\/p>\n

A hearing on the case had been scheduled to begin Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Their divorce had been a contentious, increasingly ugly affair. In May Heard alleged domestic abuse, filing for a restraining order against Depp while providing evidence of harm, including a visible bruise on her cheek, claiming the actor had recently thrown a cellphone at her face.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Los Angeles police who went to their downtown loft the night of the alleged abuse have said they found no evidence of a crime when they arrived.<\/span><\/p>\n

“During the entirety of our relationship, Johnny has been verbally and physically abusive to me,” Heard submitted in court at the time. “I endured excessive emotional, verbal and physical abuse from Johnny, which has included angry, hostile, humiliating and threatening assaults to me whenever I questioned his authority or disagreed with him.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Depp, through his lawyers, claimed Heard was ginning up bad press to increase her payout for the “short marriage.” The two had been married for about 15 months.<\/span><\/p>\n

Heard sat for a court-ordered deposition on Saturday. On Tuesday, she withdrew her effort to extend the restraining order against Depp, according to Los Angeles Superior Court documents. That was to be the subject of the hearing scheduled for Wednesday, which is now cancelled.<\/span><\/p>\n

Los Angeles divorce attorney Fahi Takesh Hallin, who has been following the case, said she believes the settlement agreement is a \u201cwin for Depp.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact that Amber Heard did not follow through with her request for a permanent restraining order speaks for itself,\u201d she said. \u201cJohnny’s refusal to play this out and discuss it with the media smacks of sincerity, as is his willingness to put this matter to bed without insisting on a vindication in court, which would have kept unnecessary media attention on the couple.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The couple married in February 2015 in a small beach ceremony on Depp’s private island in the Bahamas, one year after revealing they were engaged. They have no children together.<\/span><\/p>\n

Depp and Heard met on the set of the film The Rum Diary in 2009. At the time, Depp was still with his partner of 14 years, Vanessa Paradis, and he later stated that his relationship with Heard did not begin until after he and Paradis separated in 2012. Depp and Paradis have two children, Lily-Rose, 17, and Jack, 14.<\/span><\/p>\n
