Christie Brinkley Slams Split Rumors<\/strong> : Nuh-uh, honey. Christie Brinkley is slamming the New York Post\u2019s report that she broke up with boyfriend John Mellencamp over his \u201chellbent political opinions and redneck ways.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The supermodel addressed the Post via Instagram on Thursday, August 11, denying that Mellencamp\u2019s political opinions \u2014 and hatred for the Hamptons \u2014 drove them apart.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSomehow [the New York Post] extrapolates from [John\u2019s \u2018Peaceful World\u2019 and \u2018The West End\u2019] lyrics that John is against progressive Democratic politics and somehow sounds like a Trump fan and that \u2018hellbent political opinions and redneck ways\u2019 were the reasons we parted,\u201d Brinkley wrote alongside a photo of the article. <\/span><\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cJohn and I are actually both patriotic Americans who do our fair share of working to bring Americans together. John primarily through his work with Farm Aid and through his music, which by the way, he just gave Hillary Clinton his song for her campaign \u2018Our Country.\u2019 I was a delegate from the 1st congressional district of NY for Al Gore and have been on the campaign trails speaking out on behalf of our environmental health and nuclear disarmament.<\/span>

We both believe that we stand a better chance of overcoming the problems America faces when Americans of every race religion ethnicity, gender, black lives, blue lives, come together in mutual respect and love and that\u2019s why we are both voting for Hillary.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Brinkley went on to reiterate that she and Mellencamp split due to distance.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs to the problem John and I faced it\u2019s just mileage,\u201d she concluded. \u201cPure and simple. Not that exciting or salacious, sorry. PS John has more friends and invitations to sit at fancy tables in the Hamptons than I do, and in that setting he\u2019s very funny and charming.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Us Weekly confirmed on August 9 that Brinkley and the singer went their separate ways after a year of dating because of their conflicting schedules.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBoth the mileage between their homes and their heavy career demands interfered with their ability to maintain the relationship,\u201d a rep for the couple told Us. \u201cThey vowed to remain best of friends.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
