Usain Bolt Says on doping in track: ‘We\u2019re weeding out the bad ones’:<\/strong> RIO DE JANIERO \u2014 Usain Bolt said the sport of track and field is \u201cgoing in the right direction\u201d despite a recent onslaught of controversy stemming from state-sponsored doping system that kept all but one Russian track athlete out of the Rio Olympics.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI must say, I think we\u2019re weeding out the bad ones,\u201d said Bolt, a six-time Olympic gold medalist and 11-time world champion.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe had to go through the rough times to get to the good times. So in a few years, the sport should be cleaner.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A report commissioned by the World Anti-Drug Agency uncovered a doping program that ran from 2011-15 and involved 28 Olympic sports.<\/span>
\n<\/a>The report, conducted by WADA investigator Richard McLaren, found that Russia manipulated negative results with the knowledge of the Ministry of Sport, its own anti-doping organization and the Russian Federal Security Service.<\/span><\/p>\n

n response, WADA recommended that Russia\u2019s entire Olympic team be banned from the Rio Games. The International Olympic Committee declined to accept that recommendation, deciding instead to judge each athlete with a clean doping record on a case-by-case basis.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the same report was damning enough for the International Paralympic Committee to ban the entire Russian team from competition.<\/span><\/p>\n

Russia\u2019s doping agency is \u201cbroken, corrupted and entirely compromised,” IPC President Philip Craven said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn life, nothing is guaranteed,\u201d Bolt said. \u201cBut for me, going out there, I never worry about that. That\u2019s WADA and (the International Association of Athletics Federation) and IOC.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI go there to compete and to wow the crowd and to entertain. I don\u2019t worry about that. I just go and compete. In a few years it\u2019ll be fine, I personally think.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
