Super Mario Odyssey Nintendo news: Will new Switch game beat review rivals to top spot?:- SUPER MARIO Odyssey looks to be on course to beat its biggest rivals when it comes to Nintendo Switch reviews, but what will it have to do to achieve it?
Super Mario Odyssey on Nintendo Switch looks to be on course to become one of the new console’s best reviewed games.
An early warning of this comes from the only review available to read, which is from EDGE Magazine.
Not only does the early critic view give it a perfect score, it follows in one of its big review rivals footsteps in doing it.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild managed to pull off the same feat, which isn’t easy when you consider just how many perfect scores Edge have ever given.
EDGE isn’t known for dishing out perfect scores very often, having awarded fewer than 20 in its more than 20 year history.
But if Super Mario Odyssey wants to reach the top of the review board, it’s going to need more than just one good review.
On Metacritic, Zelda Breath of the Wild is top of the critic section, having earned a metascore of 97, based on 108 reviews.
And there’s quite a gap between Link’s latest adventure and the title in second place, which just so happens to star Mario as well.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has a score of 92, followed by Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove in third.
It should should be noted that Zelda Breath of the Wild failed to receive one negative review on the site, although it’s a different story when it comes to user reviews.
Zelda has a score of 8.4 based on over 9,000 reviews from fans and could be a hard number to beat.
Super Mario Odyssey will be boosted by the fact that there are now more on Nintendo Switch owners since Zelda was released, meaning more gamers will be willing to post a score.
Another one of Mario’s rivals actually heads up the userscore section on metacritic, with Sonic Mania having made a big impressive on fans.
Whatever happens it will be a difficult task to replace a title like Zelda Breath of the Wild at the top pile, although more will be revealed later this week.
Super Mario Odyssey launches on October 27, with fan now able to start the pre-loading process.
The option to pre-order the game now appears on the Switch eShop and the Nintendo website.
After pre-ordering Super Mario Odyssey – which carries a £49.99 price tag – fans can then pre-load the game ahead of its October 27 release date.
The functionality was made available as part of the most recent Nintendo Switch update, which also added video capture support.
The update also includes a Super Mario Odyssey icon or two for the Nintendo Switch profile page.
Fans have also discovered a hidden surprise in the boxed version of the game.
The boxed version of Super Mario Odyssey contains the lyrics to the game’s ‘Jump Up, Super Star’ theme song.
And that’s just one of many surprises in store for Super Mario fans this week.
The game also contains classic 2D platforming sections, and appearances from legendary characters such as Pauline.
